Four Seasons Resort Maui’s newest Unforgettable Event, the Aloha Windsurfing Clinic with Matt Pritchard and Shawna Cropas was a ‘splashing success’!

The guest enjoyed learning to windsurf in light winds surrounded by Hawaii’s spectacular natural beauty during the days, while the evenings were spent back at the five-star resort indulging in all the perks such as relaxing around the Serenity Pool or enjoying a few cocktails at sunset. Dinners were a dip into a ‘taste buds heaven’ whether we were dining at DUO Steak & Seafood, Ferraro’s Bar e Ristorante or sharing a few drinks and pupus ( Hawaiian term for hors d’oeuvres) at the Lobby Lounge.

Every morning the Aloha Clinic group would meet downstairs where a colossal buffet waited for them with endless breakfast choices. There was nothing more pleasurable than slowly waking up to the soft pastel turquoise colors of a Maui morning where whales were breaching on the horizon while sea turtles were lounging close to shore. The windsurfing day would official begin at 10am at Kanaha where light trade winds greeted them and rustled through the trees. Professional sailors and instructors Matt Pritchard and Shawna Cropas spent the first hour of the day teaching their guests how to manage their windsurfers and perfect their new techniques on dry land before embarking on the water. Once they were confident their guests understood their environment, safety and how to turn around Matt and Shawna lead their group out for, what was for many of them, their very first sailing experience.

The whole group was successful on the first day, within an hour’s time they had all learnt to sail out and get back to shore confidently. It was amazing to watch everyone greatly improving throughout the following days. Four Seasons provided the Aloha Windsurfing Clinic with delicious packed lunches which were enjoyed in a shady corner of the beach for those who wanted to stay out on the water longer, while others had the opportunity to return to the hotel for lunch. By 2pm everyone was back at the Four Seasons, where individuals either relaxed back in their luxurious rooms, in the spa or around the pool. At 4pm the clinic reconvened in the Windsurfing Lounge where Matt and Shawna would go over the days video to help the learning process. Cocktail hour was again enjoyed as the sun sizzled back into the Pacific where dreams come true while new culinary delights waited for our appreciation before the end of another perfect day.

Next Unforgettable Aloha Windsurfing Four Seasons Event is:

TESTIMONIALS

I tried windsurfing a few years ago with a friend who gave me a few quick “lessons” and I walked away from the sport feeling like it wasn’t for me. However, after finishing just one day in the Aloha Windsurfing Clinic with Shawna and Matt a few weeks ago, I am re-inspired by the sport once more! After some fun and informative instruction on the beach, everyone in the class was out windsurfing with Matt and Shawna offering real-time teaching and feedback right there in the water. Within minutes they had me and several other novice windsurfers sailing up and down the beach with the beautiful West Maui mountains towering in the background. I’m still in awe at how fast the Aloha Clinic got us all out there and sailing! Afterwards, we all went back to The Four Seasons Maui to relax and share our triumphs in the water over delicious tropical beverages and superbly prepared pacific rim fare. That was followed by a relaxing soak in the Serenity pool and then a super-informative video session where Shawna and Matt reviewed our individual videos and offered more expert guidance that really helped to refine our technique. I highly recommend the Aloha Windsurfing Clinic to anyone wanting to try the sport of windsurfing while also desiring to spend time luxuriating at one of the best resorts in the Hawaiian Islands. Matt and Shawna are complete professionals and they make a complex sport feel easy and accessible. I can’t wait to get back out on the water!

My experience with Aloha Windsurfing Clinic was fantastic.  From the moment I stepped on the beach, Matt and Shawna made me feel comfortable, confident and ready to learn to windsurf.  Shawna delivered excellent safety and basic skill instruction on the shore while Matt jumped right in the water to give invaluable real time coaching and feedback.  They truly are the dynamic duo!  In addition to the superb coaching, Matt and Shawna also created a professional yet jovial and relaxed atmosphere: the ideal environment for this newcomer to windsurfing.  The luxury of the Four Seasons Resort Maui was amazing after a hard day of play in the water and the evening review of footage was a really helpful to clarify questions, reinforce basic skills and create learning objectives for the next day.  My husband and I both participated in the Aloha Clinic together.  What a wonderful way to share a new sport, receive excellent training from two world-class athletes and enjoy a luxurious vacation at the Four Seasons Resort Maui.  We highly recommend the Aloha Windsurfing Clinics to anyone looking to experience the world of windsurfing on the beautiful island of Maui.

As a little girl, I was mesmerized by the beauty and power of windsurfing.  It was a 1980s family vacation to Maui at the Hookipa park outlook that did it, and I still have the scrapbook of photos of colorful sails flying over waves. Nearly 25 years later, I finally tried my hand at the sport, on Maui with windsurfing pros Matt Pritchard and Shawna Cropas.  Admittedly, I’m not the most adventurous person in the world, so I had my reservations, but I knew I was in good hands–after all, Four Seasons has partnered with them to co-host this unique experience.  My expectations were exceeded: Matt and Shawna are not only world-class athletes, they are out-of-this-world coaches.  Their methods were spot on and the level of personal attention was unlike any other camp or class that I’ve ever been to. In just a few short days, I felt that I was able to build a foundation that I can take with me and develop.  And after mornings on the water, we returned to Four Seasons Resort Maui with our new windsurfing friends, to be pampered, wined and dined.  Truly a magical experience.
